Brew Day! Oatmeal Stout!

With Stout Wars a comin’, it is time for yet another variation on a stout. this one has Oats in the grain bill.

9 lbs Avangard Pale Ale malt
1 lb Roasted Barley
1 lb Oats
1 oz East Kent Goldings (Mash)

1 Whirlfloc tablet 15 mins

30 IBU Northern Brewer 90 mins 9.2 % alpha

Mash in at 130F and slowly raise to 152 F. yup it up to 170F ish and sparge baby sparge!

re use Edinburgh yeast from previous stout

OG 14.5 Plato

Bottled with Fresh whole leaf Hallertau from Roger, close to an ounce!

Stout Wars is 2 months a way. It is time to really start crankin up some Stout!

14 lbs of Maris Otter Blent
1 1/4 lb Roasted Barley
3/4 lb Chocolate Malt
3/4 oz Fuggles and 1/4 oz Northern Brewer (Mash)

Whirlfloc tablet (15 mins)

30 IBU 9.2 alpha Northern Brewer (1/2 oz)

17.5 Plato pre-boil
22.3 Plato OG

Picked fresh raspberries from the back yard. Close to 3 pounds. Why not make a stout?

12 lbs Avangard Pale ale malt
1.5 lbs Golden Promise
1 lb Roasted Barley
3/4 lb chocolate Malt
3 lbs Raspberries (pureed in a food processor and into the mash!)

1/2 oz German Magnum 14.2 AA and 25 IBU 90 min boil

Whirlfloc tablet 15 mins

Mashed in at 120-130F held for 30 mins stepped up to 145F and held for 30 mins stepped up to 152 held for 30 mins and raised in steps to 168 F

20.6 OG

Have not made one of these in many many years.This go-around I have Golden Promise as a base malt.

15.5 lbs Golden Promise (Thomas Fawcett)
1/4 lbs Crystal 80 lov
1/4 lbs Roasted Barley
1.5 ounces blend of East Kent Goldings, Fuggles, and Northern Brewer (Mash)

25 IBU German Magnum 14.2 alpha

1 whitlfloc tablet 15 mins left in boil

re-pitch Edinburgh yeast from last weeks batch

Mashed into cooler at 130 F (dough in) 15 mins raised to 148 for 15 mins then 152 for 30 min then pulled off some mash and raised temp over 180F and added back in to raise temp close to 160F. did twice more to get to 170F ish.
